X. filed a public-law appeal to the Federal Supreme Court against a Vaud Administrative Court ruling that had declared his challenge concerning exemption from the military service tax inadmissible because the advance on costs was paid late. On 12 May 2007, he withdrew the appeal, stating that its chances of success were too low. The Federal Supreme Court took note of the withdrawal, struck the case from the docket, and ordered that no court fee be collected.
Art. 32 al. 2 LTF; withdrawal of appeal and procedural consequences; upon express withdrawal of a federal appeal, the Court takes formal note thereof and removes the case from the docket. Costs are governed by Art. 66 al. 2 LTF; in the circumstances, the Court may dispense with court fees. Where applicable, costs and expenses are dealt with under Art. 5 al. 2 PCF by virtue of Art. 71 LTF.

Que, le 17 avril 2007, X.________ a interjeté un recours auprès du Tribunal fédéral contre la décision du 20 mars 2007, rendue par le Juge instructeur du Tribunal administratif du canton de Vaud et déclarant irrecevable, pour tardiveté du paiement de l'avance de frais, le recours opposant X.________ au Service de la sécurité civile et militaire en ce qui concerne l'exonération de la taxe d'exemption pour les années 2002 à 2005,
que, le 12 mai 2007, X.________ a déclaré retirer son recours, au motif que les chances de succès de celui-ci étaient trop faibles,
qu'il convient de prendre acte du retrait du recours (cf. art. 32 al. 2 LTF), de rayer la cause du rôle et de statuer sur le sort des frais et dépens (art. 5 al. 2 PCF par renvoi de l'art. 71 LTF),
que, compte tenu des circonstances, il se justifie de statuer sans frais (art. 66 al. 2 LTF),
Ordonne:

La cause (2C_143/2007) est rayée du rôle par suite de retrait du recours.
2.
Il n'est pas perçu d'émolument judiciaire.
3.
La présente ordonnance est communiquée en copie au recourant, au Département de la sécurité et de l'environnement, Service de la sécurité civile et militaire, et au Tribunal administratif du canton de Vaud ainsi qu'à l'Administration fédérale des contributions, section taxe d'exemption de l'obligation de servir.
