The appellant withdrew his appeal in a civil eviction matter after the Federal Supreme Court had invited the respondent to comment on the request for suspensive effect. The court took note of the withdrawal, struck the case from the docket, and allocated reduced judicial costs of CHF 500 to the appellant. It also ordered him to pay the respondent CHF 600 in reduced party compensation.
Art. 32 al. 2 LTF; withdrawal of the appeal and striking the case from the docket; once the appellant withdraws the federal appeal, the proceedings are terminated without a merits decision. The court simply takes note of the withdrawal and removes the case from the docket. Costs are allocated under Art. 66 al. 2 and 3 LTF, and party compensation may be reduced under Art. 68 al. 4 LTF in conjunction with the applicable costs regulation.

Vu:
le recours interjeté le 24 février 2012 par X.________ contre l'arrêt de la Cour d'appel civile du Tribunal cantonal du canton de Vaud dans la cause précitée;
l'ordonnance présidentielle du 28 février 2012 invitant l'intimée à se déterminer sur la requête d'effet suspensif jusqu'au 14 mars 2012;
la détermination de l'intimée sur la requête d'effet suspensif du 7 mars 2012;
la lettre du 9 mars 2012 par laquelle le recourant déclare retirer le recours;
considérant:
qu'il y a lieu de prendre acte du retrait du recours et de rayer la cause du rôle (art. 32 al. 2 LTF);
que le recourant supporte les frais judiciaires réduits et verse à l'intimée une indemnité de dépens réduite (art. 66 al. 2 et 3, art. 68 al. 4 LTF; art. 8 al. 3 du Règlement sur les dépens alloués à la partie adverse [RS 173.110.210.3]);
par ces motifs, la Présidente ordonne:

La cause est rayée du rôle par suite de retrait du recours.
2.
Les frais judiciaires, arrêtés à 500 fr., sont mis à la charge du recourant.
3.
Le recourant versera à l'intimée une indemnité de 600 fr. à titre de dépens.
4.
La présente ordonnance est communiquée aux parties et à la Chambre des recours du Tribunal cantonal du canton de Vaud.
