X. filed a constitutional complaint against a cantonal appellate decision that had declared his cantonal appeal late. Considérant en fait et en droit:

1.1 Par arrêt du 12 mars 2008, la Chambre des recours du Tribunal cantonal du canton de Vaud a écarté le recours interjeté par X.________ contre le jugement par défaut rendu le 10 mars 2007 dans la cause opposant A.________ au prénommé. Elle a retenu que X.________ avait déposé son recours un jour après l'expiration du délai fixé à l'art. 458 al. 2 CPC vaud. et que ni la rédaction d'une écriture sans assistance ni une erreur dans la computation du délai ne constituaient un empêchement d'agir par force majeure.
1.2 Le 11 avril 2004, X.________ a formé un recours, non intitulé, afin d'obtenir l'annulation de l'arrêt cantonal.
L'intimée et la cour cantonale n'ont pas été invitées à se déterminer sur ce recours.

La cour cantonale a fondé sa décision sur les dispositions du code de procédure civile vaudois. Dans son écriture de recours, X.________ se plaint d'une violation arbitraire d'autres dispositions - l'art. 33 al. 4 LP, l'art. 22 PA et l'art. 32 de la loi vaudoise sur la juridiction et la procédure administratives - que celles qui ont été appliquées par les juges cantonaux. Il y ajoute des références aux art. 7, 8, 35 et 36 Cst., qui sont sans rapport avec la décision attaquée. Son recours ne satisfait donc manifestement pas aux exigences de l'art. 42 al. 2 LTF. Partant, il n'est pas possible d'entrer en matière.
Dans ces conditions, il y a lieu d'appliquer la procédure simplifiée prévue par l'art. 108 al. 1 LTF.

Etant donné les circonstances, il se justifie de renoncer à la perception de l'émolument judiciaire (art. 66 al. 1, 2ème phrase, LTF). N'ayant pas été invitée à se déterminer sur le recours, l'intimée n'a pas droit à des dépens (art. 68 al. 2 LTF).
Par ces motifs, le Président de la Ire Cour de droit civil, vu l'art. 108 al. 1 LTF:

N'entre pas en matière sur le recours.
2.
Dit qu'il n'est pas perçu de frais.
3.
Communique le présent arrêt aux parties et à la Chambre recours du Tribunal cantonal du canton de Vaud.
