X.________, represented by counsel, filed a reform appeal against a Geneva guardianship supervisory decision. The Federal Supreme Court noted that, by a decision rendered the same day in the parallel public-law appeal, the challenged cantonal decision had already been annulled. The reform appeal therefore had no remaining object and the case was removed from the docket. The court also rejected the request for legal aid and ordered the appellant to pay CHF 300 in court costs.
Art. 40 OJ, 72 PCF; a reform appeal becomes moot when the challenged cantonal decision has already been annulled in parallel proceedings and is therefore no longer capable of producing legal effects. In such a situation the Federal Supreme Court strikes the case from the roll. Where the proceeding has become unnecessary, costs may be charged to the appellant under Art. 156 al. 6 OJ; legal aid under Art. 152 OJ is refused if the request lacks prospects or the applicant has sufficient means. Considerations of economy of procedure and the absence of a live controversy are decisive.

Vu :
le recours en réforme interjeté par X.________, à A.________, représenté par Me Jean-Pierre Garbade, avocat à Genève, contre la décision prise le 13 décembre 2006 par l'Autorité de surveillance des tutelles du canton de Genève.
Considérant:
que, par arrêt de ce jour, la IIe Cour de droit civil du Tribunal fédéral a admis, dans la mesure de sa recevabilité, le recours de droit public formé par le recourant contre la décision précitée, qu'elle a dès lors annulée;
que, partant, le présent recours en réforme a perdu son objet;
que ce procédé s'étant révélé inutile, il y a lieu de mettre les frais judiciaires à la charge du recourant (art. 156 al. 6 OJ, qui demeure applicable en vertu de l'art. 132 al. 1 LTF; Messmer/Imboden, Die eidgenössischen Rechtsmittel in Zivilsachen, Zurich 1992, p. 36), dont la requête d'assistance ne peut dès lors être agréée, celui-ci disposant au demeurant sur son compte bancaire, selon les dires de son avocat, d'un solde de 14'923 fr.50 au 31 décembre 2006 (art. 152 OJ).
Par ces motifs, vu les art. 40 OJ et 72 PCF, le Tribunal fédéral prononce:

Le recours est sans objet et la cause est rayée du rôle.

La requête d'assistance judiciaire est rejetée.
3.
Un émolument judiciaire de 300 fr. est mis à la charge du recourant.
4.
La présente décision est communiquée en copie au mandataire du recourant et à l'Autorité de surveillance des tutelles du canton de Genève.

Whether the reform appeal still had an object after the parallel public-law appeal was allowed and the challenged decision annulled.
The reform appeal had become moot and had to be struck from the docket.
Because the challenged cantonal decision had already been annulled in the separate public-law proceeding, there was no longer any live subject matter for the reform appeal.
