The Federal Supreme Court dismissed a criminal appeal against a CHF 500 speeding fine from the Jura cantonal court. The appellant must indicate, at least succinctly, which legal norms were violated and why the challenged decision is erroneous; a merely abstract or unspecified reference to a legal provision does not satisfy the duty to reason. A complaint that does not engage with the cantonal court's reasoning is inadmissible (consid. 2). Where no costs are imposed for equitable reasons, a request for legal aid may become moot (consid. 3).

Faits:

Par un arrêt du 28 février 2008, la Cour pénale du Tribunal cantonal jurassien a rejeté le pourvoi de X.________ contre sa condamnation à une amende de 500 fr. pour excès de vitesse au volant.
En bref, la Cour cantonale a considéré que malgré la situation économique précaire du condamné, le montant de l'amende était justifié par l'état de récidive (4 condamnations depuis 2001, dont 3 pour infractions à la LCR). Aucune appréciation manifestement inexacte des faits et aucune application erronée des critères légaux n'ont été constatées.

En temps utile, le condamné a saisi le Tribunal fédéral d'un recours tendant implicitement à la réduction de l'amende. D'après lui, les Juges n'auraient pas tenu compte de l'art. 63 (vraisemblablement 63aCP) quant à sa capacité financière.
Le recourant sollicite l'assistance judiciaire.
Considérant en droit:

Aux termes de l'art. 108 al. 1 let. b LTF, le Président de la Cour décide en procédure simplifiée de ne pas entrer en matière sur les recours dont la motivation est manifestement insuffisante (art. 42 al. 2).

Au mépris de l'art. 42 al. 2 LTF, le recourant n'expose pas, même succinctement, en quoi l'arrêt attaqué violerait le droit. Il ne discute pas avec la précision nécessaire les motifs de la Cour cantonale. Certes, il cite l'art. 63 en relation avec sa capacité financière mais un grief aussi imprécis ne suffit pas (ATF 133 IV 286).
Dès lors, la motivation présentée est manifestement insuffisante. Le recours est irrecevable.

Vu la situation économique précaire du recourant, il est statué exceptionnellement sans frais. Ainsi, la demande d'assistance judiciaire n'a plus d'objet.
Par ces motifs, le Président prononce:

Le recours est irrecevable.
2.
Il n'est pas perçu de frais judiciaires.
3.
Le présent arrêt est communiqué aux parties et à la Cour pénale du Tribunal cantonal du canton du Jura.
