Considérant en fait et en droit:

Par jugement du 14 août 2008, le Tribunal d'accusation du Tribunal cantonal vaudois a confirmé, faute de prévention, le refus de suivre à la plainte déposée pour diffamation par X.________ contre Y.________. La plaignante interjette un recours en matière pénale contre ce jugement. En outre, elle sollicite l'octroi de l'assistance judiciaire visant à la dispenser des frais de justice corrélatifs.

En vertu de l'art. 42 al. 1 et 2 LTF, le recourant doit motiver son recours en exposant succinctement en quoi la décision attaquée viole le droit. En l'occurrence, X.________ se borne pour l'essentiel à invoquer les circonstances de son licenciement et ses démêlés avec Y.________, sans pour autant démontrer en quoi la décision attaquée violerait le droit. Faute de satisfaire ainsi aux exigences de motivation, le recours doit être écarté en application de l'art. 108 al. 1 let. b LTF.

Comme les conclusions du recours étaient ainsi d'emblée vouées à l'échec, l'assistance judiciaire ne peut pas être accordée (art. 64 al. 1 LTF). La recourante devra donc supporter les frais judiciaires (art. 66 al. 1 LTF), réduits à 500 fr. pour tenir compte de sa situation financière.
Par ces motifs, le Président prononce:

Le recours est irrecevable.
2.
La demande d'assistance judiciaire est rejetée.
3.
Les frais judiciaires, arrêtés à 500 fr., sont mis à la charge de la recourante.
4.
Le présent arrêt est communiqué aux parties et au Tribunal d'accusation du Tribunal cantonal du canton de Vaud.
