NO. 2026-K-0768
COURT OF APPEAL, FOURTH CIRCUIT
STATE OF LOUISIANA
STATE OF LOUISIANA
VERSUS
JOE GILLUM, SR.
IN RE: JOE GILLUM, SR.
APPLYING FOR: SUPERVISORY WRIT
DIRECTED TO: HONORABLE ANGEL HARRIS
CRIMINAL DISTRICT COURT ORLEANS PARISH
SECTION “L”, 563-733
WRIT DENIED
Relator, Joe Gillum, Sr. (“Mr. Gillum”), filed the above-captioned, pro se
writ application with this Court. At the outset, we note Mr. Gillum’s writ
application does not demonstrate that he initially filed anything with the district
court regarding the issues raised therein; and he does not seek mandamus relief
from this Court. Further, to the extent Mr. Gillum contests the computation of his
sentence by the Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections, the proper
venue is the 19th Judicial District Court in East Baton Rouge Parish. La. R.S.
15:571.15.1 Accordingly, Mr. Gillum’s writ application is denied.
1 Louisiana Revised Statutes 15:571.15 provides, in pertinent part:
Venue in any action in which an individual committed to the Department of
Public Safety and Corrections contests the computation of his sentence or
sentences, discharge, good time dates, or any action concerning parole shall be in
the parish of East Baton Rouge.
