AN ACT

Designating the reconstructed bridge spanning Shawnee Run on State Route 462 in the Borough of Columbia, Lancaster County, as the Herbert "Cubby" Spiese Bridge.

The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania hereby enacts as follows:

Section 1. Herbert "Cubby" Spiese Bridge.

(a) Findings.--The General Assembly finds and declares as follows:

(1) Herbert "Cubby" Spiese, a lifelong resident of Columbia Borough, devoted much time and effort over several years to persuading the Department of Transportation and his State representatives that the deteriorating bridge spanning Shawnee Run on State Route 462 in the Borough of Columbia needed to be reconstructed. In early 2006, Spiese's persistence was rewarded when reconstruction of the bridge was completed.

(2) On August 11, 2008, Columbia Borough Council adopted a resolution requesting that the Department of Transportation name the bridge in honor of Mr. Spiese, who still resides in Columbia, but is in poor health.

(b) Designation.--The reconstructed bridge spanning Shawnee Run on State Route 462 in the Borough of Columbia, Lancaster County, is designated as the Herbert "Cubby" Spiese Bridge.

(c) Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect and maintain appropriate signs displaying the name of the bridge to traffic in both directions.

Section 2. Effective date.

This act shall take effect in 60 days.
