The obligation to be in possession of a valid ETIAS travel authorisation in accordance with Article 5 paragraph 1 letterabisbegins to apply six months after the Amendment of 25 September 2020 comes into force. The Federal Council may extend this deadline.
In the six months following the expiry of the period referred to in paragraph 1, the competent border control authorities shall allow third-country nationals subject to this obligation who are not in possession of a valid ETIAS travel authorisation to enter Switzerland provided that they fulfil all the other requirements under Article 5 and enter the Schengen area for the first time during these six months. The Federal Council may extend this period by a maximum of six months
