Travel documents for foreign nationals may be furnished with a data chip. The data chip may contain a digitalised facial image, the fingerprints of the holder and further personal data, as well as details of the travel document. The data specified in Article 4 paragraph 1 letter g of the Federal Act of 20 June 20031on the Information System on Matters relating to Foreign Nationals and Asylum may also be stored on the chip. The Federal Council shall determine the types of travel documents for foreign nationals that will be furnished with a data chip and what data is to be stored thereon.
