In Erwägung,
dass das Regionalgericht Berner Jura-Seeland mit Verfügung vom 18. Juni 2013 das Verfahren CIV 13 2122 als gegenstandslos abschrieb, die Gerichtskosten von Fr. 1'000.-- der Beschwerdeführerin auferlegte und diese zur Zahlung einer Parteientschädigung von Fr. 1'404.-- an den Beschwerdegegner verpflichtete;
dass die Beschwerdeführerin an das Obergericht des Kantons Bern gelangte, das mit Entscheid vom 21. November 2013 deren Beschwerde abwies und sie verpflichtete, dem Beschwerdegegner für das oberinstanzliche Verfahren eine Parteientschädigung von Fr. 800.-- zu bezahlen;
dass die Beschwerdeführerin dem Bundesgericht eine vom 16. Januar 2014 datierte Eingabe einreichte, in der sie erklärte, den Entscheid des Obergerichts vom 21. November 2013 mit Beschwerde anzufechten;
dass die Beschwerdeführerin mit Schreiben vom 3. Februar 2013 das Gesuch stellte, es seien ihr für das bundesgerichtliche Verfahren keine Gerichtskosten aufzuerlegen;
dass die Beschwerde in Zivilsachen nach Art. 72 ff. BGG im vorliegenden Fall nicht erhoben werden kann, weil der erforderliche Mindeststreitwert von Fr. 15'000.-- nicht gegeben ist (Art. 74 Abs. 1 lit. a BGG);
dass die Eingabe der Beschwerdeführerin unter diesen Umständen als subsidiäre Verfassungsbeschwerde im Sinne der Art. 113 ff. BGG zu behandeln ist;
dass mit der subsidiären Verfassungsbeschwerde nur die Verletzung von verfassungsmässigen Rechten gerügt werden kann (Art. 116 BGG);
dass in der Beschwerdeschrift dargelegt werden muss, welche verfassungsmässigen Rechte durch das kantonale Gericht verletzt worden sind, und solche Rügen in Auseinandersetzung mit den Erwägungen des angefochtenen Entscheides präzise zu begründen sind (Art. 42 Abs. 2 und Art. 106 Abs. 2 in Verbindung mit Art. 117 BGG; BGE 134 V 138 E. 2.1 S. 143; 133 III 439 E. 3.2 S. 444 mit Hinweis);
dass die Eingabe der Beschwerdeführerin vom 16. Januar 2014 den erwähnten Begründungsanforderungen offensichtlich nicht genügt, weshalb auf die Beschwerde im Verfahren nach Art. 108 Abs. 1 lit. b BGG nicht einzutreten ist;
dass unter den gegebenen Umständen auf die Erhebung von Gerichtskosten zu verzichten ist (Art. 66 Abs. 1 zweiter Satz BGG), womit das Gesuch um Befreiung von diesen Kosten gegenstandslos wird;
Auf die Beschwerde wird nicht eingetreten.
Es werden keine Gerichtskosten erhoben.
Dieses Urteil wird den Parteien und dem Obergericht des Kantons Bern, Zivilabteilung, 2. Zivilkammer, schriftlich mitgeteilt.
