In Erwägung,
dass das Zivilgericht von Basel-Stadt die von den Beschwerdeführern gegen die Beschwerdegegnerin erhobene Klage auf Zahlung von Fr. 980.-- (Rückforderung Mietzins Februar 2006), Fr. 2'000.-- (Anwaltskosten) und Fr. 2'020.-- (Inkonvenienzentschädigung) mit Entscheid vom 27. Juni 2007 abwies;
dass die Beschwerdeführer an das Appellationsgericht des Kantons Basel-Stadt gelangten, dessen Ausschuss die Beschwerde mit Entscheid vom 26. September 2007 abwies, soweit darauf eingetreten wurde;
dass die Beschwerdeführer dem Bundesgericht eine vom 22. Mai 2008 datierte Eingabe einreichten, in der sie erklärten, den Entscheid des Appellationsgerichts vom 26. September 2007 mit Beschwerde anzufechten;
dass die Beschwerdeführer ihre Beschwerde innerhalb von dreissig Tagen seit der Zustellung des begründeten Entscheides des Appellationsgerichts beim Bundesgericht einreichen mussten (Art. 100 Abs. 1 BGG);
dass der Entscheid des Appellationsgerichts nach den eigenen Angaben der Beschwerdeführer in der Beschwerdeschrift ihnen am 22. April 2008 zugestellt wurde;
dass die dreissigtägige Frist von Art. 100 Abs. 1 BGG damit am 23. April 2008 zu laufen begann (Art. 44 Abs. 1 BGG) und am 22. Mai 2008 ablief, weshalb die Beschwerdeschrift spätestens an diesem Tag der Schweizerischen Post übergeben werden musste (Art. 48 Abs. 1 BGG);
dass die Beschwerdeschrift gemäss dem auf dem Briefumschlag angebrachten Vermerk erst am 23. Mai 2008 der Post übergeben wurde, weshalb auf die Beschwerde wegen Verspätung nicht eingetreten werden kann;
dass auf die Eingabe der Beschwerdeführer, die als subsidiäre Verfassungsbeschwerde im Sinne der Art. 113 ff. BGG zu behandeln ist (Art. 74 BGG), aber auch mangels hinreichender Begründung (vgl. dazu Art. 42 Abs. 2 und Art. 106 Abs. 2 BGG) nicht einzutreten ist (Art. 108 Abs. 1 BGG), da in der Beschwerdeschrift mit keinem Wort gesagt wird, inwiefern der Entscheid des Appellationsgerichts gegen bundesrechtliche oder kantonalrechtliche Verfassungsbestimmungen verstossen soll;
dass unter den gegebenen Umständen auf die Erhebung von Gerichtskosten zu verzichten ist (Art. 66 Abs. 1 BGG);
erkennt der Präsident:

Auf die Beschwerde wird nicht eingetreten.

Es werden keine Gerichtskosten erhoben.
3.
Dieses Urteil wird den Parteien und dem Appellationsgericht des Kantons Basel-Stadt, Ausschuss, schriftlich mitgeteilt.
