in die Verfügung vom 31. Januar 2012, womit das Gesuch abgewiesen und eine Frist zur Bezahlung eines Kostenvorschusses in der Höhe von Fr. 750.- innert 14 Tagen angesetzt wurde,
in die Verfügung vom 5. März 2012, mit welcher S.________ zur Bezahlung des Kostenvorschusses innert einer Nachfrist bis zum 16. März 2012 verpflichtet wurde, ansonsten androhungsgemäss auf das Rechtsmittel nicht eingetreten werde,
in die Eingabe von S.________ vom 15. März 2012,

in Erwägung,
dass der Beschwerdeführer den Vorschuss auch innerhalb der Nachfrist nicht geleistet hat, weshalb androhungsgemäss zu verfahren ist,
dass daran die Eingabe vom 15. März 2012 nichts ändert, zumal die darin geltend gemachten finanziellen Gegebenheiten nicht neu sind,
dass deshalb im vereinfachten Verfahren nach Art. 108 Abs. 1 lit. a BGG auf die Beschwerde nicht einzutreten ist und der Beschwerdeführer nach Art. 66 Abs. 1 und 3 BGG kostenpflichtig wird,

erkennt der Präsident:

Auf die Beschwerde wird nicht eingetreten.

2.
Die Gerichtskosten von Fr. 300.- werden dem Beschwerdeführer auferlegt.

3.
Dieses Urteil wird den Parteien und dem Appellationsgericht des Kantons Basel-Stadt als Verwaltungsgericht schriftlich mitgeteilt.
