Considérant en fait et en droit:
que par acte du 9 février 2007, R.________ a interjeté un recours en matière de droit public, subsidiairement un recours constitutionnel pour déni de justice formel à raison d'un retard injustifié à statuer contre le Tribunal cantonal des assurances du canton du Valais;
qu'il a sollicité, simultanément, l'octroi de l'assistance judiciaire pour la procédure fédérale, tout en effectuant l'avance de frais requise;
que par décision du 8 mai 2007, le Tribunal fédéral a rejeté la demande d'assistance judiciaire et imparti un délai de 14 jours, à dater de la notification de la décision, pour déclarer s'il entendait retirer, sans frais, son recours;
que par lettre du 31 mai 2007, R.________ a retiré son recours;
qu'il sied de radier sans frais la cause du rôle (art. 66 al. 2 LTF),
par ces motifs, le Juge instructeur, vu l'art. 32 al. 2 LTF, décide:

La cause 9C_12/2007 est rayée du rôle ensuite de retrait du recours.
2.
Il n'est pas perçu de frais de justice.
3.
L'avance de frais effectuée par le recourant, d'un montant de 500 fr., lui est restituée.
4.
La présente décision sera communiquée aux parties, à la Caisse de retraite et de prévoyance du personnel enseignant du canton X.________ et à l'Office fédéral des assurances sociales.
