ricorso contro la sentenza emanata il 24 gennaio 2008 dal Tribunale amministrativo del Cantone Ticino.

Considerando:
che il 29 febbraio 2008 A.A.________ e B.A.________ hanno presentato al Tribunale federale un ricorso in materia di diritto pubblico avverso una decisione 24 gennaio 2008 con la quale il Tribunale amministrativo del Cantone Ticino ha respinto un loro ricorso concernente una domanda di ricusa di una municipale di Bellinzona;
che con decreto presidenziale del 7 marzo 2008 i ricorrenti sono stati invitati a fornire, entro il 7 aprile 2008, un anticipo di fr. 2'000.-- per le spese giudiziarie presunte;
che con decreto presidenziale del 9 aprile successivo, in accoglimento di una domanda di proroga formulata dai ricorrenti, il citato termine è stato posticipato al 21 aprile 2008;
che con lettera del 21 aprile 2008 il legale dei ricorrenti ha comunicato al Tribunale federale che, dopo aver conferito con i suoi mandanti, non procederà al versamento dell'anticipo, per cui lo stesso è da ritenersi decaduto;
che l'anticipo non essendo stato versato entro il termine suppletorio, il ricorso dev'essere dichiarato inammissibile (art. 62 cpv. 3 LTF);
che le spese inutili, visto che il Tribunale federale ha proceduto a uno scambio di scritti, sono pagate da chi le causa (art. 66 cpv. 3 LTF);
richiamato l'art. 108 cpv. 1 lett. a LTF;

per questi motivi, il Tribunale federale pronuncia:

1.
Il ricorso è inammissibile.

2.
Le spese giudiziarie di fr. 500.-- sono poste a carico dei ricorrenti.

3.
Comunicazione al patrocinatore dei ricorrenti, a C.________, al Municipio di Bellinzona, al Dipartimento delle istituzioni, al Consiglio di Stato e al Tribunale amministrativo del Cantone Ticino.
