The appellants withdrew their Federal Supreme Court appeal against the cantonal judgment concerning the amendment of the Webersbleiche development plan. The President of the First Public Law Division therefore struck the proceedings off the roll as withdrawn and ordered the appellants to pay court costs of CHF 500 under Art. 66(1) BGG. The decision was communicated to the appellants, the Political Municipality of St. Gallen, the cantonal building department, and the cantonal administrative court.
Art. 66 Abs. 1 BGG; withdrawal of the appeal renders the federal proceedings moot and leads to striking the case off the roll. Upon withdrawal, the Federal Supreme Court allocates costs according to the outcome, typically charging them to the appellants unless special grounds justify a different allocation. A merits review is not conducted once the appeal has been validly withdrawn (consid. 1).

dass die bundesgerichtlichen Kosten dem Ausgang des Verfahrens entsprechend den Beschwerdeführerinnen aufzuerlegen sind (Art. 66 Abs. 1 BGG);
verfügt der Präsident:

Die Beschwerde im Verfahren 1C_170/2012 wird als durch Rückzug erledigt abgeschrieben.
2.
Die Gerichtskosten von Fr. 500.-- werden den Beschwerdeführerinnen auferlegt.
3.
Diese Verfügung wird den Beschwerdeführerinnen, der Politischen Gemeinde St. Gallen, dem Baudepartement des Kantons St. Gallen und dem Verwaltungsgericht des Kantons St. Gallen schriftlich mitgeteilt.
