The Federal Supreme Court dealt with a filing against a cantonal decision refusing to entertain a tenant eviction appeal. Because the dispute value for an ordinary civil appeal was not reached and no question of fundamental importance was shown, the filing was treated as a subsidiary constitutional complaint. The court held that the appellants failed to meet the required substantiation standards for alleging constitutional violations. It therefore did not enter into the complaint and imposed court costs of CHF 300 on the appellants jointly and severally.

In Erwägung,
dass den Beschwerdeführern auf Gesuch der Beschwerdegegner vom Amtsgerichtspräsidenten III von Luzern-Land mit Entscheid vom 31. Oktober 2008 befohlen wurde, innerhalb von zehn Tagen seit Rechtskraft des Entscheides die 4 1/2-Zimmerwohnung im 3. OG und den Garageplatz Nr. 3 der Liegenschaft E.________ ordnungsgemäss zu räumen und zu verlassen;
dass die Beschwerdeführer an das Obergericht des Kantons Luzern rekurrierten, dessen Einzelrichter mit Entscheid vom 15. Dezember 2008 auf den Rekurs nicht eintrat;
dass die Beschwerdeführer dem Bundesgericht eine vom 16. Januar 2009 datierte Eingabe einreichten, in der sie erklärten, den Entscheid des Obergerichts vom 15. Dezember 2008 anzufechten;
dass die Beschwerde in Zivilsachen nach Art. 72 ff. BGG nicht erhoben werden kann, weil der erforderliche Mindeststreitwert von Fr. 15'000.-- (Art. 74 Abs. 1 lit. a BGG) nicht erreicht wird und sich keine Rechtsfrage von grundsätzlicher Bedeutung im Sinne von Art. 74 Abs. 2 lit. a BGG stellt;
dass die Eingabe der Beschwerdeführer unter diesen Umständen als subsidiäre Verfassungsbeschwerde im Sinne der Art. 113 ff. BGG behandelt werden muss;
dass mit einer solchen Beschwerde ausschliesslich die Verletzung von verfassungsmässigen Rechten gerügt werden kann (Art. 116 BGG);
dass in der Beschwerdeschrift dargelegt werden muss, welche verfassungsmässigen Rechte durch das kantonale Gericht verletzt worden sind, und solche Rügen unter Bezugnahme auf die Erwägungen des angefochtenen Entscheides zu begründen sind (Art. 42 Abs. 2 und Art. 106 Abs. 2 in Verbindung mit Art. 117 BGG);
dass die Eingabe der Beschwerdeführer diese Begründungsanforderungen offensichtlich nicht erfüllt, weshalb auf die Beschwerde mangels hinreichender Begründung nicht einzutreten ist (Art. 108 Abs. 1 lit. b BGG);
dass die Gerichtskosten den Beschwerdeführern aufzuerlegen sind (Art. 66 Abs. 1 BGG);
erkennt die Präsidentin:

Auf die Beschwerde wird nicht eingetreten.

2.
Die Gerichtskosten von Fr. 300.-- werden den Beschwerdeführern unter solidarischer Haftbarkeit auferlegt.

3.
Dieses Urteil wird den Parteien und dem Obergericht des Kantons Luzern, I. Kammer als Rekursinstanz, schriftlich mitgeteilt.
