Der Präsident zieht in Erwägung:

Der Beschwerdeführer wurde mit Verfügung vom 28. Oktober 2008 aufgefordert, dem Bundesgericht spätestens am 18. November 2008 einen Kostenvorschuss von Fr. 2'000.-- einzuzahlen. Weil der Kostenvorschuss innert Frist nicht einging, wurde dem Beschwerdeführer mit Verfügung vom 28. November 2008 die in Art. 62 Abs. 3 BGG vorgeschriebene Nachfrist zur Vorschussleistung bis zum 17. Dezember 2008 angesetzt mit der Androhung, bei Nichtleistung trete das Bundesgericht auf das Rechtsmittel nicht ein. Mit Eingabe vom 5. Dezember 2008 teilt der Beschwerdeführer mit, seine finanziellen Mittel liessen es nicht zu, den Kostenvorschuss zu leisten. Damit ist er schon deshalb nicht zu hören, weil er seine Behauptung zur knappen Finanzlage weder begründet noch belegt. Ebenso wenig vermag er aus dem Hinweis, dass er wegen eines Auslandaufenthalts erst vor sieben Tagen Kenntnis von der Kostenvorschussverfügung vom 28. Oktober 2008 erhalten habe, etwas für sich abzuleiten. Denn der Beschwerdeführer hätte ab Einreichung der Beschwerde vor Bundesgericht am 23. Oktober 2008 dafür besorgt sein müssen, dass ihm behördliche Akten zugestellt werden können (BGE 130 III 396 E. 1.2.3;119 IV 89 E. 4b/aa). Ohnehin hat im zu beurteilenden Fall aber offensichtlich die Mutter des Beschwerdeführers das fragliche Einschreiben entgegengenommen. Diese Zustellung muss sich der Beschwerdeführer anrechnen lassen. Da der Kostenvorschuss demnach auch innert der Nachfrist nicht eingegangen ist, ist auf die Beschwerde androhungsgemäss im Verfahren nach Art. 108 BGG nicht einzutreten.

Die Gerichtskosten sind dem Beschwerdeführer aufzuerlegen (Art. 66 Abs. 1 BGG).
Demnach erkennt der Präsident:

Auf die Beschwerde wird nicht eingetreten.

2.
Die Gerichtskosten von Fr. 800.-- werden dem Beschwerdeführer auferlegt.

3.
Dieses Urteil wird den Parteien und dem Obergericht des Kantons Solothurn, Beschwerdekammer, schriftlich mitgeteilt.
