The Federal Supreme Court did not enter into the appellant’s challenge against the Bern cantonal decision on supplementary benefits to AHV/IV because the submissions did not satisfy the minimum requirements of a reasoned appeal. The filing contained no legally sufficient request and did not engage with the cantonal court’s assessment of the amount of the benefit. The Court therefore issued a summary non-entry decision and waived court costs.

in das Schreiben des Bundesgerichts vom 28. September 2010 an M.________, wonach die Beschwerde die gesetzlichen Formerfordernisse hinsichtlich Antrag und Begründung nicht zu erfüllen scheine und eine Verbesserung nur innert der Beschwerdefrist möglich sei,
in die daraufhin von M.________ am 30. September 2010 eingereichte Eingabe,

in Erwägung,
dass ein Rechtsmittel gemäss Art. 42 Abs. 1 und 2 BGG unter anderem die Begehren und deren Begründung zu enthalten hat, wobei in der Begründung in gedrängter Form darzulegen ist, inwiefern der angefochtene Akt Recht verletzt,
dass sich die beiden Eingaben des Beschwerdeführers nicht mit der Beurteilung des Streitgegenstandes durch die Vorinstanz (Höhe des Anspruches auf Ergänzungsleistungen) befassen,
dass sie darum den inhaltlichen Mindestanforderungen nicht genügen, da sie keinen rechtsgenüglichen Antrag enthalten und den Ausführungen nicht entnommen werden kann, inwiefern die Sachverhaltsfeststellungen des kantonalen Gerichts im Sinne von Art. 97 Abs. 1 BGG unzutreffend und die darauf beruhenden Erwägungen rechtsfehlerhaft sein sollen,
dass deshalb im vereinfachten Verfahren nach Art. 108 Abs. 1 lit. b BGG auf die Beschwerde nicht einzutreten ist und in Anwendung von Art. 66 Abs. 1 Satz 2 BGG auf die Erhebung von Gerichtskosten verzichtet wird,
erkennt der Präsident:

Auf die Beschwerde wird nicht eingetreten.

2.
Es werden keine Gerichtskosten erhoben.

3.
Dieses Urteil wird den Parteien, dem Verwaltungsgericht des Kantons Bern, Sozialversicherungsrechtliche Abteilung, und dem Bundesamt für Sozialversicherungen schriftlich mitgeteilt.
