The Federal Supreme Court held that the appellant's complaint against a cantonal building-permit decision was inadmissible because it was filed without the required handwritten signature and the defect was not remedied within the deadline set by the court. The court treated the notice as served after the postal collection period expired, despite the appellant refusing delivery. The Court therefore issued a non-entry decision in simplified proceedings and ordered the appellant to pay court costs of CHF 300. No party compensation was awarded to the private respondent.
Art. 42 Abs. 5 BGG, Art. 108 Abs. 1 lit. a BGG; uncorrected lack of signature on a complaint. A federal complaint lacking the appellant’s handwritten signature is inadmissible if the defect is not remedied within the court-imposed period. Refusal to accept a judicial notice does not prevent service; a postal notice is deemed served at the latest upon expiry of the seven-day collection period from arrival at the post office of the addressee. Where the defect remains uncured, the court may decide not to enter into the matter in simplified proceedings. Court costs follow the outcome under Art. 66 Abs. 1 BGG; no party compensation is due absent compensable expense.

In Erwägung,
dass X.________ mit Eingabe vom 30. März 2008 gegen den am 19. Dezember 2007 betreffend Baubewilligung ergangenen Entscheid der 1. Kammer der 1. Abteilung des Verwaltungsgerichts des Kantons Zürich Beschwerde ans Bundesgericht führt;
dass er weder auf der Beschwerde selber noch auf dem von ihm verwendeten Briefumschlag seine Unterschrift anbrachte;
dass das Bundesgericht den Beschwerdeführer mit Schreiben vom 1. April 2008 unter Verwendung einer Gerichtsurkunde aufforderte, den Mangel bis am 11. April 2008 zu beheben, d.h. die Eingabe bis dahin mit seiner eigenhändigen Unterschrift zu versehen, ansonsten auf die Rechtsschrift nicht eingetreten werden könne (Art. 42 Abs. 5 BGG);
dass der Beschwerdeführer die Annahme der Gerichtsurkunde und damit des genannten Schreibens vom 1. April 2008 verweigerte;
dass eine derartige gerichtliche Sendung spätestens am letzten Tag einer Frist von sieben Tagen ab Eingang bei der Poststelle am Ort des Empfängers als zugestellt zu betrachten ist (BGE 123 III 492, s. auch BGE 134 V 49);
dass im vorliegenden Fall die Abholfrist am 11. April 2008 unbenutzt abgelaufen ist und daher die Sendung an diesem Tag als zugestellt gilt;
dass der Beschwerdeführer den Mangel somit nicht behoben hat und demzufolge auf die Beschwerde im vereinfachten Verfahren nach Art. 108 Abs. 1 lit. a BGG nicht einzutreten ist;
dass bei diesem Ausgang des Verfahrens die Gerichtskosten dem Beschwerdeführer aufzuerlegen sind (Art. 66 Abs. 1 BGG);
dass der privaten Beschwerdegegnerin im vorliegenden Verfahren kein Aufwand entstanden und daher keine Parteientschädigung zuzusprechen ist;
erkennt der Präsident:

Auf die Beschwerde wird nicht eingetreten.
2.
Die Gerichtskosten von Fr. 300.-- werden dem Beschwerdeführer auferlegt.
3.
Dieses Urteil wird den Parteien, dem Bauausschuss der Stadt Winterthur und dem Verwaltungsgericht des Kantons Zürich, 1. Abteilung, 1. Kammer, schriftlich mitgeteilt.
