X. withdrew his federal appeal against the judgment of the Zurich Administrative Court. The Federal Supreme Court therefore discontinued the proceedings and struck the case off the docket. It also ordered that no court costs be charged. The decision was notified to the parties, the Zurich Government Council, and the Administrative Court of the Canton of Zurich.
Art. 66 Abs. 1 BGG; withdrawal of the appeal: if the appellant withdraws the appeal, the Federal Supreme Court strikes the proceedings from the docket as moot. In such a procedural discontinuance, court costs may be waived; where no costs are imposed, the court expressly orders that no fee be collected (consid. 1).

verfügt das präsidierende Mitglied:

Das Verfahren 1C_33/2009 wird infolge Rückzugs der Beschwerde abgeschrieben.

Es werden keine Kosten erhoben.
