A.A.________ filed a public-law appeal to the Federal Supreme Court against a 16 July 2008 judgment of the Ticino Administrative Court concerning a building permit. On 28 August 2008, the appellant withdrew the appeal. The Federal Supreme Court therefore struck the case from the docket and, exercising its discretion in matters of costs, ordered that no court costs be levied. The decision was issued by the president of the First Public Law Court, with the court clerk signed in the heading.
Art. 32 cpv. 1-2 LTF; withdrawal of the appeal and striking out of the proceedings; costs under Art. 66 cpv. 2 LTF. Where an appeal is withdrawn, the presiding judge may, as single judge, order the case removed from the docket. In such a case the Federal Supreme Court may waive court costs wholly or in part; the allocation of costs is determined ex officio in the discontinuance decision (consid. on art. 32 and 66 LTF).

considerando:
che il 14 agosto 2008 A.A.________ ha presentato al Tribunale federale un "ricorso" contro una decisione emanata in materia edilizia il 16 luglio 2008 dal Tribunale cantonale amministrativo;
che con scritto del 28 agosto 2008 il ricorrente ha dichiarato di ritirare il gravame;
che il presidente della Corte, o il giudice dell'istruzione, decide quale giudice unico circa lo stralcio delle cause ritirate (art. 32 cpv. 1 e 2 LTF) e, in tale ambito, statuisce sulle spese giudiziarie (art. 5 cpv. 2 PC in relazione con l'art. 71 LTF);
che in caso di desistenza il Tribunale federale può rinunciare in tutto o in parte a riscuotere le spese giudiziarie (art. 66 cpv. 2 LTF);
che nella fattispecie si può rinunciare a prelevare spese processuali;
per questi motivi, il presidente decreta:

La causa è stralciata dai ruoli a seguito del ritiro del ricorso.
2.
Non si prelevano spese giudiziarie.
3.
Comunicazione alle parti, rispettivamente ai loro rappresentanti e al Tribunale amministrativo del Cantone Ticino.
