The Swiss Federal Supreme Court took note of the appellant’s withdrawal of his civil appeal in an employment case concerning a certificate. The case was struck from the docket under Art. 32(2) LTF. The appellant was ordered to pay judicial costs of CHF 200. The prior request for legal aid had already been rejected, and an advance on costs had been requested.
Art. 32 al. 2 LTF; withdrawal of the appeal and removal from the docket. When the appellant withdraws the appeal, the Federal Supreme Court takes formal note of the withdrawal and orders the case struck from the roll; no material adjudication on the merits is rendered. In such circumstances, the appellant generally bears the judicial costs pursuant to Art. 65 and Art. 66 LTF, including where an advance on costs had previously been ordered. The decision is a procedural order and is limited to the consequences of the withdrawal (consid. 1).

l'ordonnance présidentielle du 2 juillet 2008 invitant le recourant à verser une avance de frais de 2'000 fr. jusqu'au 18 août 2008;
la lettre du 14 août 2008 par laquelle la mandataire du recourant déclare retirer le recours;
considérant:
qu'il y a lieu de prendre acte de ce retrait et de rayer la cause du rôle (art. 32 al. 2 LTF);
que le recourant supporte les frais judiciaires (art. 65 al. 1 et 3 let. b et 66 al. 2 et 3 LTF);
par ces motifs, le Président ordonne:

Il est pris acte du retrait du recours en matière civile.

La cause 4A_169/2008 est rayée du rôle.
3.
Les frais judiciaires, arrêtés à 200 fr., sont mis à la charge du recou-rant.

La présente ordonnance est communiquée aux mandataires des parties, à la Caisse Y.________ et à la Cour d'appel de la juridiction des prud'hommes du canton de Genève.
