The Federal Supreme Court held that the filing could not be treated as an ordinary civil appeal because the amount in dispute did not reach CHF 30,000 and no issue of fundamental importance was shown. It therefore construed the submissions as a subsidiary constitutional complaint. However, the complainant did not specify and argue constitutional rights with reference to the cantonal decision, so the complaint was not entered upon. The court waived court costs, making the request for exemption moot.
Art. 74 BGG, Art. 116 BGG, Art. 106 Abs. 2 BGG, Art. 117 BGG; admissibility of the subsidiary constitutional complaint and reasoning requirements. Where the amount in dispute for the civil-law appeal is not reached and no question of fundamental importance is shown, the filing is to be treated as a subsidiary constitutional complaint. In such proceedings, only violations of constitutional rights may be alleged, and the complaint must, in a precise manner and by reference to the reasoning of the challenged decision, set out which constitutional rights were infringed; generic or merely appellatory criticism is insufficient (consid. 1). If these requirements are not met, the court does not enter upon the complaint under Art. 108 Abs. 1 lit. b BGG. Where no court costs are levied, a request for exemption from costs becomes moot (consid. 2).

In Erwägung,
dass die Beschwerdeführerin am 30. Mai 2013 beim Bezirksgericht Winterthur Klage auf Zahlung von Fr. 20'000.-- nebst Zins einreichte;
dass das Bezirksgericht mit Verfügung vom 30. September 2013 auf das Gesuch der Beschwerdeführerin um Bewilligung der unentgeltlichen Rechtspflege nicht eintrat und das Verfahren als durch Vergleich erledigt abschrieb;
dass die Beschwerdeführerin an das Obergericht des Kantons Zürich gelangte, das mit Beschluss vom 29. November 2013 das Gesuch der Beschwerdeführerin auf Gewährung der unentgeltlichen Rechtspflege für das Berufungsverfahren abwies und der Beschwerdeführerin Frist zur Zahlung eines Kostenvorschusses von Fr. 2'500.-- ansetzte;
dass die Beschwerdeführerin dem Bundesgericht zwei vom 26. Dezember 2013 datierte, aber am 30. Dezember 2013 bzw. am 6. Januar 2014 beim Bundesgericht eingegangene Rechtsschriften einreichte, aus denen abgeleitet werden kann, dass sie den Beschluss des Obergerichts mit Beschwerde anfechten will;
dass eine Beschwerde in Zivilsachen im vorliegenden Fall nicht zulässig ist, weil der erforderliche Streitwert von Fr. 30'000.-- (Art. 74 Abs. 1 lit. b BGG) nicht erreicht wird und sich keine Rechtsfrage von grundsätzlicher Bedeutung im Sinne vom Art. 74 Abs. 2 lit. a BGG stellt;
dass die Eingaben der Beschwerdeführerin unter diesen Umständen als subsidiäre Verfassungsbeschwerde im Sinne von Art. 113 ff. BGG zu behandeln sind;
dass mit einer solchen Beschwerde ausschliesslich die Verletzung von verfassungsmässigen Rechten gerügt werden kann (Art. 116 BGG);
dass in der Beschwerdeschrift dargelegt werden muss, welche verfassungsmässigen Rechte durch das kantonale Gericht verletzt worden sind, und solche Rügen unter Bezugnahme auf die Erwägungen des angefochtenen Entscheides zu begründen sind (Art. 106 Abs. 2 in Verbindung mit Art. 117 BGG);
dass die Rechtsschriften vom 26. Dezember 2013 diese Begründungsanforderungen nicht erfüllen, weshalb auf die Beschwerde im Verfahren nach Art. 108 Abs. 1 lit. b BGG nicht einzutreten ist;
dass unter den gegebenen Umständen auf die Erhebung von Gerichtskosten zu verzichten ist (Art. 66 Abs. 1 zweiter Satz BGG), womit das Gesuch um Befreiung von diesen Kosten gegenstandslos wird;
Auf die Beschwerde wird nicht eingetreten.
Es werden keine Gerichtskosten erhoben.
Dieses Urteil wird den Parteien und dem Obergericht des Kantons Zürich, II. Zivilkammer, schriftlich mitgeteilt.

Admissibility of a civil law appeal despite the missing statutory amount in dispute and no fundamental legal question
The ordinary civil law appeal was not available because the amount in dispute was not reached and no fundamental legal question arose.
The statutory threshold under Art. 74 BGG was not met, and no question of fundamental importance was shown.
Treatment of the filing as subsidiary constitutional complaint and compliance with its reasoning requirements
The filings had to be treated as a subsidiary constitutional complaint, but they did not meet the specific duty to invoke and reason constitutional rights; therefore the complaint was not entered upon.
Under Arts. 116, 106(2) and 117 BGG, only constitutional rights may be invoked and they must be specifically and reasonedly challenged with reference to the contested decision; this was not done.
Court costs
No court costs were charged.
Given the circumstances, the court waived the levying of judicial costs.
