The employee appealed to the Federal Supreme Court after the Regional Court had struck the action off following a court-approved settlement and the cantonal appeal court had refused to enter on the appeal for insufficient reasoning. The Federal Supreme Court held that an ordinary civil appeal was unavailable because the amount in dispute was below CHF 15,000 and no fundamental legal question arose. It treated the filing as a subsidiary constitutional complaint, but found that the appellant did not address the reasons of the cantonal decision or specify any violated constitutional rights. The Court therefore did not enter on the complaint and imposed court costs of CHF 500 on the appellant.
Art. 74 BGG, 113 ff. BGG, 116 BGG, 106 Abs. 2 i.V.m. 117 BGG; subsidiäre Verfassungsbeschwerde is only available where the ordinary appeal is excluded, and it may invoke solely constitutional rights. The constitutional complaint must set out, in a reasoned manner and with reference to the challenged decision, which constitutional guarantees were violated; a mere disagreement with the outcome or a failure to address the cantonal reasoning is insufficient. If these requirements are manifestly not met, the Federal Supreme Court will not enter into the complaint under Art. 108 Abs. 1 lit. b BGG. Costs are borne by the unsuccessful party under Art. 66 Abs. 1 BGG.

In Erwägung,
dass der Beschwerdeführer am 22. April 2012 beim Regionalgericht Bern-Mittelland Klage auf Zahlung von Fr. 5'726.32 nebst Zins gegen die Beschwerdegegnerin, seine frühere Arbeitgeberin, einreichte;
dass das Regionalgericht das Verfahren mit Verfügung vom 14. Juni 2012 als erledigt abschrieb, weil die Parteien einen gerichtlich genehmigten Vergleich geschlossen hatten;
dass der Beschwerdeführer die Verfügung vom 14. Juni 2012 mit Beschwerde beim Obergericht des Kantons Bern anfocht;
dass das Obergericht mit Entscheid vom 26. Juli 2012 auf die Beschwerde nicht eintrat, weil die Rechtsschrift den gesetzlichen Anforderungen an eine Beschwerdebegründung nicht genügte;
dass der Beschwerdeführer dem Bundesgericht eine vom 14. August 2012 datierte Eingabe einreichte, in der er erklärte, den Entscheid des Obergerichts vom 26. Juli 2012 mit Beschwerde anzufechten;
dass eine Beschwerde in Zivilsachen im vorliegenden Fall nicht zulässig ist, weil der erforderliche Streitwert von Fr. 15'000.-- (Art. 74 Abs. 1 lit. a BGG) nicht erreicht wird und sich keine Rechtsfrage von grundsätzlicher Bedeutung im Sinne vom Art. 74 Abs. 2 lit. a BGG stellt;
dass die Eingabe des Beschwerdeführers unter diesen Umständen als subsidiäre Verfassungsbeschwerde im Sinne von Art. 113 ff. BGG zu behandeln ist;
dass mit einer solchen Beschwerde ausschliesslich die Verletzung von verfassungsmässigen Rechten gerügt werden kann (Art. 116 BGG);
dass in der Beschwerdeschrift dargelegt werden muss, welche verfassungsmässigen Rechte durch das kantonale Gericht verletzt worden sind, und solche Rügen unter Bezugnahme auf die Erwägungen des angefochtenen Entscheides zu begründen sind (Art. 106 Abs. 2 in Verbindung mit Art. 117 BGG);
dass die Eingabe vom 14. August 2012 diese Begründungsanforderungen offensichtlich nicht erfüllt, weil gar nicht auf die Erwägungen des angefochtenen Entscheides eingegangen wird;
dass demnach auf die Beschwerde mangels genügender Begründung im Verfahren nach Art. 108 Abs. 1 lit. b BGG nicht einzutreten ist;
dass die Gerichtskosten dem Beschwerdeführer aufzuerlegen sind (Art. 66 Abs. 1 BGG);
erkennt die Präsidentin:

Auf die Beschwerde wird nicht eingetreten.
2.
Die Gerichtskosten von Fr. 500.-- werden dem Beschwerdeführer auferlegt.

Dieses Urteil wird den Parteien und dem Obergericht des Kantons Bern, Zivilabteilung, 2. Zivilkammer, schriftlich mitgeteilt.

Admissibility of the appeal to the Federal Supreme Court as a civil-law appeal
The civil-law appeal was not admissible because the amount in dispute did not reach CHF 15,000 and no legal question of fundamental importance arose.
The disputed amount was below the statutory threshold under Art. 74 para. 1 let. a BGG, and the case did not raise a fundamental legal question under Art. 74 para. 2 let. a BGG.

Whether the constitutional complaint satisfied the reasoning requirements
The complaint was insufficiently reasoned because it did not engage with the reasoning of the cantonal decision and did not identify the allegedly violated constitutional rights in a substantiated manner.
Under Art. 116 and Art. 106 para. 2 in conjunction with Art. 117 BGG, constitutional complaints must expressly state which constitutional rights were violated and argue this by reference to the challenged decision; the filing failed to do so.
Costs of the Federal Supreme Court proceedings
Court costs were imposed on the appellant.
The losing party bears the costs under Art. 66 para. 1 BGG.
