X. appealed to the Federal Supreme Court against a Zurich appellate decision upholding enforced psychiatric treatment. She later faxed a withdrawal of the appeal and was subsequently discharged from the institution. The President of the II Civil Division held that the withdrawal lacked the required original signature, but the case had nevertheless become moot due to the discharge, so the appeal was struck out. The court granted legal aid insofar as the request was not moot, appointed Attorney Edmund Schönenberger as counsel, and ordered that no court costs be levied. Counsel was awarded CHF 1,000 from the federal court treasury.
Art. 71 BGG i.V.m. Art. 72 BZP; Art. 32 Abs. 2 BGG; mootness and withdrawal of an appeal: where the subject matter of the appeal ceases to exist, the proceedings are to be struck from the docket as moot. A withdrawal of an appeal, like the filing of the appeal itself, requires the original signature of the appellant. If the appeal was not manifestly without prospects and the appellant is indigent, legal aid may still be granted for the non-moot portion of the request; in such a case counsel may be appointed and remunerated from the federal treasury. No court costs are to be levied when the proceedings are discontinued as moot (consid. 1-3).

in den Fax der Beschwerdeführerin vom 1. März 2008,
in das Schreiben des Anwaltes der Beschwerdeführerin vom 27. März 2008,
in Erwägung,
dass die Beschwerdeführerin mit Fax vom 1. März 2008 den Rückzug der Beschwerde erklärt hat,
dass der Rückzug wie die Beschwerderhebung die Originalunterschrift der beschwerdeführenden Partei voraussetzt,
dass die Beschwerdeführerin laut Mitteilung ihres inzwischen entlassenen Anwaltes vom 27. März 2008 nunmehr aus der Anstalt Z.________ entlassen worden ist,
dass es sich demzufolge rechtfertigt, die Beschwerde in Anwendung von Art. 71 BGG i.V.m. Art. 72 BZP vom Präsidenten der II. zivilrechtlichen Abteilung (Art. 32 Abs. 2 BGG) als gegenstandslos abzuschreiben,
dass keine Kosten zu erheben sind (Art. 66 Abs. 1 BGG),
dass dem Gesuch der Beschwerdeführerin um unentgeltliche Rechtspflege für das bundesgerichtliche Verfahren - soweit dieses nicht gegenstandslos geworden ist - entsprochen werden kann, da die Beschwerde nicht als von vornherein aussichtslos galt und die Beschwerdeführerin bedürftig ist (Art. 64 Abs. 1 und 2 BGG),
erkennt der Präsident:

Die Beschwerde wird als gegenstandslos abgeschrieben.
2.
Das Gesuch der Beschwerdeführerin um unentgeltliche Rechtspflege für das bundesgerichtliche Verfahren wird gutgeheissen, soweit es nicht gegenstandslos geworden ist. Ihr wird Rechtsanwalt Edmund Schönenberger, Postfach 333, 8153 Rümlang, als Rechtsbeistand beigegeben.

Es werden keine Kosten erhoben.
4.
Rechtsanwalt Schönenberger wird ein Honorar von Fr. 1'000.-- aus der Bundesgerichtskasse entrichtet.
