The appellant filed a federal appeal against a cantonal decision concerning involuntary commitment, but later withdrew the appeal in writing. The Federal Supreme Court therefore struck the proceedings off the docket by presidential order and ordered no court costs. The order was notified to the appellant, the medical officer of St. Gallen, and the cantonal review commission.
Art. 32 Abs. 2 BGG; withdrawal of an appeal leads to dismissal of the proceedings by the president. In such a case, the court may discontinue the matter without further review; costs may be waived pursuant to Art. 66 Abs. 1 BGG, with the procedural mechanism of Art. 71 BGG in conjunction with Art. 73 BZP governing the strike-off of the case.

dass die Beschwerdeführerin die erwähnte Eingabe mit Schreiben vom 21. Mai 2012 zurückgezogen hat, die Beschwerde daher durch die Abteilungspräsidentin (Art. 32 Abs. 2 BGG) ohne Kostenfolge für die Beschwerdeführerin abzuschreiben ist (Art. 71 BGG i.V.m. Art. 73 BZP; Art. 66 Abs. 1 BGG),
verfügt die Präsidentin:

Das Verfahren wird als durch Rückzug der Beschwerde erledigt abgeschrieben.

Es werden keine Kosten erhoben.

Diese Verfügung wird der Beschwerdeführerin, dem Amtsarzt des Kantons St. Gallen und der Verwaltungsrekurskommission des Kantons St. Gallen, Abteilung V, schriftlich mitgeteilt.
