The Federal Supreme Court dealt with a constitutional complaint against a St. Gallen cantonal court decision on legal aid in a neighbour-law matter. After the appellant withdrew the complaint by letter, the II Civil Law Division, acting through its president, struck the proceedings from the docket. The court also imposed the CHF 200 court fee on the appellant.

dass der Beschwerdeführer die erwähnte Eingabe mit Schreiben vom 21. April 2008 zurückgezogen hat, die Beschwerde daher durch den Abteilungspräsidenten (Art. 32 Abs. 2 BGG) abzuschreiben ist (Art. 71 BGG i.V.m. Art. 73 BZP) und die Kosten dem Beschwerdeführer aufzuerlegen sind (Art. 71 BGG i.V.m. Art. 5 Abs. 2 BZP, Art. 66 Abs. 1 und 5 BGG),
verfügt der Präsident:

Das Verfahren wird als durch Rückzug der Beschwerde erledigt abgeschrieben.
2.
Die Gerichtsgebühr von Fr. 200.-- wird dem Beschwerdeführer auferlegt.
3.
Dieses Urteil wird dem Beschwerdeführer und dem Kantonsgericht St. Gallen, Präsident der I. Zivilkammer schriftlich mitgeteilt.

Whether the constitutional complaint should be struck out after withdrawal
The proceedings were closed because the complaint had been withdrawn.
Once the appellant withdrew the filing, the case became moot and had to be discontinued by the division president under the applicable procedural rules.
Who bears the court costs after withdrawal of the complaint
The court fee was imposed on the appellant.
As the withdrawal caused the discontinuance, costs were allocated to the appellant under the cited procedural and federal court provisions.
