The Federal Supreme Court gave the appellant a deadline and grace period to pay an advance of costs of CHF 2,000, warning that it would otherwise not enter into the appeal. The appellant’s later request for legal aid was unreasoned and he admitted that he could not prove current need. Because he still did not pay the advance costs, the court did not enter into the appeal under Art. 108 BGG and ordered him to pay court costs of CHF 800.
Art. 108 BGG; non-payment of advance costs after setting of a deadline and grace period leads to non-entry on the appeal where the party has been duly warned and does not establish grounds excusing payment. A request for legal aid must be substantiated; absent proof of current indigence, it is to be rejected. Court costs are imposed on the unsuccessful party pursuant to Art. 66 Abs. 1 BGG.

Der Einzelrichter zieht in Erwägung:

Dem Beschwerdeführer wurden mit Verfügungen vom 1. Februar und 21. Februar 2013 eine Frist und die gesetzlich vorgeschriebene Nachfrist bis zum 7. März 2013 angesetzt, um dem Bundesgericht einen Kostenvorschuss von Fr. 2'000.-- einzuzahlen, ansonsten auf das Rechtsmittel nicht eingetreten werde. Da der Beschwerdeführer das nachträglich eingereichte Gesuch um unentgeltliche Rechtspflege nicht begründete, wurde am Kostenvorschuss festgehalten (act. 10). Gleichzeitig wurde er darauf hingewiesen, dass die Nichtbezahlung des Kostenvorschusses nicht als Rückzug des Rechtsmittels gelte (act. 10; act. 11). Der Beschwerdeführer räumte in der Folge ein, einen aktuellen Notbedarf nicht belegen zu können (act. 12). Den Kostenvorschuss leistete er innert Frist nicht. Androhungsgemäss ist auf die Beschwerde im Verfahren nach Art. 108 BGG nicht einzutreten.

Die Gerichtskosten sind dem Beschwerdeführer aufzuerlegen (Art. 66 Abs. 1 BGG).
Demnach erkennt der Einzelrichter:

Das Gesuch um unentgeltliche Rechtspflege wird abgewiesen.
2.
Auf die Beschwerde wird nicht eingetreten.
3.
Die Gerichtskosten von Fr. 800.-- werden dem Beschwerdeführer auferlegt.
4.
Dieses Urteil wird den Parteien und dem Kantonsgericht Basel-Landschaft, Abteilung Strafrecht, schriftlich mitgeteilt.

The request for legal aid was denied because it was not substantiated and the appellant could not prove present indigence.
The late-filed request lacked reasons, and the appellant admitted he could not substantiate current financial need.
