The appellant filed a federal appeal against a Ticino appellate judgment on expulsion. After being ordered to pay an advance on costs of CHF 500 and then granted a supplementary deadline under Art. 62(3) LTF, he still did not pay. The Federal Supreme Court therefore did not examine the case on the merits, applied the simplified procedure, declared the appeal inadmissible, and charged the court costs to the appellant.

Wird der Vorschuss trotz ausdrücklicher Androhung nicht bezahlt, ist die Beschwerde offensichtlich unzulässig und kann ohne materielle Prüfung erledigt werden. Die Gerichtskosten werden der unterliegenden Partei auferlegt (consid. 1-2).

Considerando:
che il 18 settembre 2012 A.________ è insorto al Tribunale federale con un ricorso contro la sentenza della Seconda Camera civile del Tribunale d'appello del Cantone Ticino del 21 agosto 2012;
che con decreto del 24 settembre 2012 il ricorrente è stato invano invitato a versare un anticipo spese di fr. 500.--;
che con decreto del 17 ottobre 2012 è stato fissato al ricorrente, giusta l'art. 62 cpv. 3 LTF, un termine suppletorio sino al 2 novembre 2012, con l'avvertenza che in assenza di pagamento entro tale termine il rimedio sarebbe dichiarato inammissibile;
che in tempo utile non è intervenuto alcun versamento;
che in queste circostanze l'impugnativa non può essere vagliata nel merito (art. 62 cpv. 3 LTF) e il ricorso, manifestamente inammissibile, può essere evaso mediante la procedura semplificata di cui all'art. 108 cpv. 1 lett. a LTF;
che le spese giudiziarie seguono la soccombenza (art. 66 cpv. 1 LTF);
per questi motivi, la Presidente pronuncia:

Il ricorso è inammissibile.
2.
Le spese giudiziarie di fr. 500.-- sono poste a carico del ricorrente.
3.
Comunicazione alle parti e alla Seconda Camera civile del Tribunale d'appello del Cantone Ticino.

Whether the appeal was admissible despite non-payment of the advance on costs.
No. Because the advance on costs was not paid within the supplementary deadline, the appeal could not be examined on the merits and had to be declared inadmissible.
Under Art. 62(3) LTF, failure to pay the advance on costs within the set time limit results in inadmissibility. The court therefore used the simplified procedure under Art. 108(1)(a) LTF.
Allocation of court costs
The court costs were charged to the appellant as the losing party.
Costs follow the event under Art. 66(1) LTF.
