The appellant filed a federal appeal against a cantonal decision concerning involuntary commitment, but later withdrew the appeal in writing. dass die Beschwerdeführerin die erwähnte Eingabe mit Schreiben vom 21. Mai 2012 zurückgezogen hat, die Beschwerde daher durch die Abteilungspräsidentin (Art. 32 Abs. 2 BGG) ohne Kostenfolge für die Beschwerdeführerin abzuschreiben ist (Art. 71 BGG i.V.m. Art. 73 BZP; Art. 66 Abs. 1 BGG),
verfügt die Präsidentin:

Das Verfahren wird als durch Rückzug der Beschwerde erledigt abgeschrieben.

Es werden keine Kosten erhoben.
3.
Diese Verfügung wird der Beschwerdeführerin, dem Amtsarzt des Kantons St. Gallen und der Verwaltungsrekurskommission des Kantons St. Gallen, Abteilung V, schriftlich mitgeteilt.

Whether the federal appeal should be struck off after withdrawal of the appeal
The proceedings were discontinued and struck off because the appellant withdrew the appeal.
Once the appellant filed a withdrawal, the case had to be closed without further examination; the president could issue the dismissal order under Art. 32(2) BGG.

No court costs were levied against the appellant.
