The Federal Office is the competent authority for:
issuing licences for handling radioactive waste;
approving the agreement concerning the return of radioactive waste in accordance with Article 34 paragraph 3 letter d and paragraph 4 of the Nuclear Energy Act.
The special competence under Article 11 paragraph 2 letter f RPO1is reserved.2
The Department is responsible for concluding the agreement under international law in accordance with Article 34 paragraph 3 letter a NEA in the case of the export of low and intermediate-level waste for conditioning purposes.3
