The official veterinarian or the official assistant in the public veterinary service under their supervision shall inspect the following animals before slaughter and the meat after slaughter:
animals of the equine, bovine, ovine, caprine and porcine species;
wild animals reared as productive livestock.
He or she shall decide on how the meat is used thereafter.
The Federal Council may provide for:
the inspection of other animal species before slaughter and the inspection of the meat;
the inspection of the meat of animals killed as game.
It shall regulate:
the procedure for the inspection of animals before slaughter;
the procedure for the meat inspection;
if applicable the inspection procedure for other animal species.
