Commentaries: Art. 42

The Confederation shall supervise the enforcement of this Act by the cantons.
It shall coordinate enforcement measures and the provision of information and shall issue national inspection and emergency plans.
It may for the purpose of coordination:
1. require the cantons to inform the Confederation of enforcement measures and of the results of inspections and tests;
2. require the cantons to carry out specific measures with a view to harmonising enforcement;
3. in extraordinary situations, instruct the cantons to carry out specific enforcement measures.
The competent federal authority may:
1. coordinate and support inter-laboratory testing by the cantonal enforcement authorities;
2. conduct its own inter-laboratory testing in cooperation with the cantonal enforcement authorities.
The Federal Council shall coordinate the enforcement of this Act with the enforcement of the following acts in particular:
1. Animal Protection Act of 16 December 2005¹;
2. Therapeutic Products Act of 15 December 2000²;
3. Gene Technology Act of 21 March 2003³;
4. Epidemics Act of 28 September 2012⁴;
5. Agriculture Act of 29 April 1998⁵;
6. Epizootic Diseases Act of 1 July 1966⁶.
