Donated blood must be tested for the presence or signs of pathogens and examinations must be carried out in order to guarantee compatibility.
The Federal Council shall specify:
for which pathogens or which signs of their presence the blood should be tested;
the procedure to be followed when a test result is positive;
the examinations to be carried out in order to guarantee compatibility;
the regulations concerning the execution of tests.
It may grant exemptions to the obligation to test in the case of autologous transfusions.
